Internet of Things 

With an increase of advancements in technology there is always a growth of concern as well. To be unaware of what we are doing on the Internet is extremely dangerous, but it is that much more scary when we do know what we are doing, but don't suspect any dangers at all? It is imperative that the benefits of a technological advancement is weighed against the drawbacks and possible endangerments someone may face. 

What is it?

The Internet of Things or IoT refers to the physical devices around the entire world that are connected to the Internet, in which they collect and share data. Experiencing a technologically advanced world that continues to evolve, there is a continued and evolving link between digital and physical creations in where they come together. It is becoming more and more prominent in where we see physical objects being converted into an IoT device. For instance, a light bulb that can be switched on or off using a smartphone app, which is not dependent upon one's location. The Internet of Things is on a steep increase and continues to grow. It is said that in 2020 there is an impending prediction that there will be 20.4 billion IoT devices in use. 


With The Benefits Comes Drawbacks 

A promise to improve someone's life is tempting. However, with convenience and comfort comes hindrances and dissatisfaction. It is understood that benefits are going to be consumer driven, whether it would be allowing homes to have a more comfortable temperature upon arriving home or making it seem like someone is home through the use of smart lights. These applications that promise a better quality of life can actually put one's life in harms way. 

Security is a big issue in regard to IoT devices. IoT devices such as lights, cars, and webcams are easily targeted by hackers, which compromises one's security and privacy. In certain cases, locations, conversations, and communications are seized, which creates lots of disturbances in IoT devices. A lot of information can be taken from these devices and that is a choice one has to make when buying these products.
